A human scale is the rate of an individual walking 5 km/hr. and the rate of car driving is 60 km/hr. Modern means to create or make something look more advanced than the original layout. Lastly, ancient refers to something in the past that is old.
The human scale has changed as the centuries went by. In the past, most cities built their areas in a walkable distance. The places would be near your house. Now, everything has evolved. Cities have built-in more roads and buildings than there were before. Looking at the first image, location is in Paris. Paris was beautiful back then. Tons of greenery which made the city look more alive. In the picture below, there were not many buildings in Paris back in the 1900’s. Now, the city of lights has many more buildings and is full of car lanes. Near the Eiffel Tower, there are many more trees. Altogether, Paris is a city that always looks alive in day and night time. In the second image, the location is in Calgary. Some cities prefer to have walkways than roads. That’s why, in the picture below, there was a road before which then evolved to a public place with grass. Many interactions between individuals. There is more use of the 5 km/hr. than the 60 km/hr. In the third image, location is Greece. Before, in Greece, there were many sidewalks and places to get around by feet. When developed, near the mountain, more buildings were built and more routes were created. There is the use of both 5 km/hr. and 60 km/hr. In the fourth image, location is New York City. This change looks better. Before, there were roads. After, they changed it to walkways. It makes more sense for it to be built in a way where we can walk and not drive because Times Square is full of stores. If you take your car around and drive from place to place, you would be stuck in traffic or there won’t be many parking spots, better to walk in New York City than drive. In the fifth image, location is Indonesia. There is not much of a change. Only in the modern image, there are extra routes built and more business buildings are added. In the last image, location is India. There is a change in the way the village was built before and now. Scanning over the image, before, there were multiple small stores on the sides and an ancient way of the road was constructed. Back in the days, in India, roads were built with a sand-like texture. Citizens of India would walk on the sides of the road and small shops would sell items such as foods and clothes. Now, in India, there are normal roads built and the shops would be car distance apart. In conclusion, depending on the way of the city, the routes would be built. In some areas, people prefer to walk more than drive. In other areas, it’s vice versa, people drive more than walk. The buildings would be built depending on the human scale.
This is a map of St. Augustine secondary school. It is located on 27 Drinkwater Rd. There are 9 pins attached to this map. Each pin leads to a different part of the school building. A few pins are off property. As you click on one pin, there is a picture of the view. When you click on the picture, it will lead you to the school's website. Go on and explore!
Description of each picture: 1) The main entrance to our school is located near the parking lot. 2) The portables are used for classes. In the winter, it would be cold inside the portables. In the summer, it would be warm in the portables. 3) The track is used publicly and used by the students in our school. During gym, students are told to run around the track. It's best in the summertime. 4) The court is not school property. Anyone can use it. Playing tennis, badminton, or volleyball in the court is really fun. 5) In our school, we have a Chapel. The Chapel is used sometimes during the school year. 6) There is also a park nearby our school. Most people hang around there during their lunchtime. It's pretty nice. 7) In our school, there are DD students as well. Their entrance is from the back of the school where the parking lot is. The DD students are nice. 8) Lastly, Near the entrance of the school, there is a built-in playground at our school. That is school property. It is for kids around 5-7. These are all the highlights of St. Augustine secondary school. You might get lost when you first enter, but it's not that complicated. Scroll around the map and check out the different features. Enjoy! Canadian Geography is a topic full of Canada's landscapes and features. From this subject, we uncover all of Canada's realities/facts. Some of Canada's facts is that the oldest rock found on Earth is 250 million years older than other known rocks. How cool is that? Another one, Ontario's Wasaga beach is the longest beach in the whole world. It extends 14 kilometers along the shores of Lake Huron Georgian Bay. Wow! That is really long! Look how much we can learn in geography itself. I never knew any of that. Geography is the study of, "what is where and why is it there?"
